Face Addiction Now in Delta County began as the vision of a local health professional in 2018, after she heard a speech by the co-founder of the FAN organization in lower Michigan.
With both personal insight and a professional background in treating substance use disorders, the local health professional had seen the toll that substance use can take on individuals, families, and the broader Delta County community. When Face Addiction Now co-founder Judge Linda Davis spoke about the need for practical solutions and forward momentum, her message resonated. It felt like exactly what was needed to begin approaching the issue with new focus.
With the support of committed professionals and concerned residents, efforts began to take shape to launch a local FAN chapter. Among those involved were officers Liza Plourde and John Gudwer, who had seen how substance use affected families across generations; Robin Nast and Nancy Kutzcera, who understood the broader impact on households; and District Court Judge Steven Parks, who had long observed how these issues contributed to repeat involvement in the justice system. A 2020 launch was in the works—until the COVID-19 pandemic delayed large in-person gatherings. But when it was safe to resume, the group returned with renewed determination.
Today, as a chapter of Face Addiction Now, our goal is to provide clear information and practical next steps for individuals and families who are facing substance use challenges—and to be a local resource for those looking for paths forward.
