
FAN is seeking a Community Education Coordinator to play a critical role in advancing our statewide overdose prevention and education efforts. This individual will primarily coordinate and deliver naloxone trainings and manage FAN’s public naloxone dispensing boxes. They will also contribute to FAN’s broader education and prevention programming by presenting on topics such as addiction awareness, stigma reduction, and youth prevention when needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Overdose Education & Naloxone
- Support strategic planning for agency-wide overdose education and naloxone distribution
- Collaborate on community-based prevention initiatives aimed at increasing public access to naloxone and increasing public awareness of overdose risk
- Plan, schedule, and instruct in-person and virtual naloxone training events for the general public and private sector
- Assist in developing educational materials and resources to prevent unintentional/accidental overdose deaths
- Track and evaluate participant engagement and program impact through surveys, attendance records, and educator feedback.
- Manage refill requests for public naloxone boxes, coordinating refill deliveries via mail or direct drop-off, including naloxone kits, drug test strips, and resource materials
- Collaborate on community-based overdose prevention initiatives and outreach activities
- Organize program supplies, assemble, and maintain records for naloxone rescue kits, wall mounts, and public naloxone dispensing boxes used for trainings and distribution in the field
Community Education & Prevention
- Assist with FAN’s youth prevention programming, including sessions on early adolescence risk factors, healthy coping strategies, and early warning signs of substance use
- Plan, schedule, and deliver school-based and community presentations on topics such as substance use prevention, prescription drug misuse, addiction stigma, and recovery support
- Use interactive tools such as testimonial videos, click-and-play lessons, and real-life recovery stories in educational sessions
Community Engagement & Events
- Attend and coordinate community tabling events, health fairs, and resource fairs to raise awareness of FAN’s services
- Build and maintain relationships with community organization, schools, coalitions, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and other stakeholders
- Promote FAN initiatives through direct outreach and participation in local and regional events
Administrative & Organizational Duties
- Maintain accurate records of all trainings, resource distributions, and public naloxone box activity
- Follow grant reporting requirements and organizational administrative policies
- Represent FAN professionally and uphold the organization’s mission and values
- Support cross-program collaboration with FAN staff, contractors, and volunteers
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, public health, education, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 2 years of combined paid or volunteer experience in community education, youth programming, or substance use prevention
- Comfortable with public speaking and facilitating in front of large or diverse audiences.
- Must be available for evening and weekend work as needed
- Valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance
- Ability to pass criminal background and driving record checks
- Well-versed in using Google software, such as Drive, Forms/Sheets, Calendar, or equivalent Microsoft software applications
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Experience in the medical field (EMS, Medical Assistance, Nursing, etc.) and/or knowledgeable in basic physiology and emergency care principles
- Valid card evidencing successful completion of a First Aid, CPR and AED course or equivalent certification
- Familiarity with addiction, recovery, or public health principles

The Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) is a key part of FAN’s Detroit Quick Response Team, providing immediate and ongoing support to individuals impacted by substance use. This role is rooted in lived experience, compassion, and the belief that recovery should be met with dignity and without judgment.
This position combines the principles of peer support and community outreach. The PRC works side-by-side with an Outreach Specialist, responding to overdose-related calls, community referrals, and follow-up needs across Detroit.
FAN’s QRT model is based on proven strategies used across the country to reduce overdose deaths and promote recovery by meeting people where they are—on the street, in their homes, or wherever help is needed most.
Responsibilities will include:
- Engage individuals in a trauma-informed, person-centered way during field outreach, including overdose follow-up visits.
- Offer emotional support, encouragement, and a connection to care that honors all paths to recovery.
- Link individuals to treatment, harm reduction services, peer support, and basic needs resources.
- Share your personal recovery experience to foster trust and demonstrate the reality of recovery.
- Help remove barriers to recovery (e.g., transportation, documentation, stigma).
- Document interactions and outcomes clearly in the case tracking system.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FAN services, community resources, and trends in recovery and harm reduction.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 continuous years in recovery.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and insured, reliable transportation.
- Must pass a background check, sex offender registry check, and a drug screen within 48 hours of hire.
- Completion of CCAR Recovery Coach Academy (or willingness to complete the 5-day course before starting).
- Completion of 16-hour CCAR Ethics within 4 months of hire.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction.
- Ability to maintain boundaries and model professionalism.
- Experience with community-based outreach or street outreach preferred.

The Case Manager for the Detroit Quick Response Team (QRT) provides intensive, long-term support to individuals impacted by substance use disorder, with a specific focus on co-occurring mental health challenges and barriers related to housing, income, or employment. This role is responsible for outreach, case management, transportation, and systems coordination aimed at improving participant stability and overall quality of life.
The Case Manager also plays a key role in managing follow-up efforts, tracking outcomes, and building strong relationships within Detroit’s criminal justice and housing systems to strengthen service connections.
Responsibilities will include:
Outreach & Immediate Engagement
- Participate in field-based outreach alongside DQRT team members following non-fatal overdoses or public safety referrals.
- Conduct home and community visits to offer support, assess needs, and build trust with participants.
- Provide harm reduction education and distribute resources such as naloxone, hygiene supplies, and referral materials.
Case Management & Coordination of Care
- Deliver person-centered, intensive case management for participants with complex needs, supporting long-term recovery and stability.
- Develop individualized support plans that address substance use, mental health, and barriers related to housing, income, or employment.
- Coordinate services across treatment providers, housing agencies, workforce development programs, and the criminal justice system.
- Provide transportation to treatment, housing, legal, and support service appointments to reduce barriers to engagement.
- Maintain regular contact with participants and offer consistent follow-up for up to 12 months.
Outcome Management & Quality of Life Focus
- Track participant engagement, service utilization, and progress using FAN’s case management systems.
- Monitor and document improvements in participants’ quality of life, including health, safety, housing, and purpose.

System Collaboration & Advocacy
- Build and sustain strong working relationships with courts, probation departments, shelters, behavioral health providers, and reentry programs.
- Serve as a liaison between participants and systems partners, advocating for timely, equitable access to needed services.

Requirements:
