
FAN is seeking to hire a Family Recovery Coach (FRC) to work in Macomb County. This is an independent contractor position with a flexible schedule. Hours are on an as-needed basis and not guaranteed. The applicant must have lived experience as the family member of someone with substance use disorder. The FRC will be connected to and work with the families of loved ones suffering from substance use disorder, and, combining their experience with training and supervision, will guide families in responding to their loved one in a way that is healthy and supports family recovery.
Responsibilities will include:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the family recovery wellness plans based on the program curriculum
- Provide compassion, support, and resources to help families cope with specific issues, including enabling, codependency, setting healthy boundaries, and other family dynamics
- Learn and maintain knowledge of all FAN programs and national trends in substance abuse, prevention, and treatment
- Maintain accurate records of valuable company and programming information.
- Maintain confidentiality of information, upholding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Participate in program and collaborative events, training, and fundraisers
- Meet individually with families, ideally in-person. May meet also virtually, by phone, or in various community settings.

- Ability to treat families with compassion and respect to help them heal
- Certificate of completion from the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy. Highly-qualified candidates may be provided with CCAR training upon hire.

We are hiring for the 24-hour Quick Response Team (QRT) in the City of Detroit--specifically day shift at this time. (Standard day shift is 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, weekdays and weekends, with potential flexibility to fill in for afternoon outreach shifts as needed.)
The Outreach Specialist will be a team member on the Detroit Quick Response Team, which is responsible for responding to all non-fatal overdoses by providing immediate outreach at the doors of individuals who have recently experienced an overdose. In addition to direct outreach, the team also responds to hospital referrals and conducts proactive community outreach efforts.
Individuals applying for this role should be comfortable engaging with people and families impacted by substance use disorder. Outreach activities will include engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness and entering homes as needed to connect individuals to harm reduction, recovery, and support services.This role focuses on accessing to recovery services, providing harm reduction services, education, and compassionate support to individuals with substance use disorders.
The Quick Response Team model has proven effective in connecting individuals with substance use disorders to treatment and support services, ultimately reducing mortality. QRTs are typically made up of a small, multidisciplinary team (e.g., peer recovery coaches, harm reduction providers, social workers, nurses, behavioral health specialists, community health workers, EMTs/paramedics, and other clinical or non-clinical professionals).
Responsibilities will include:
- Conduct outreach and engagement with individuals experiencing substance use disorders.
- Provide education on harm reduction strategies, including safer use practices and overdose prevention.
- Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone, drug testing strips, and hygiene items.
- Conduct basic health assessments and screenings as needed.
- Provide referrals to healthcare, recovery, and social services providers.
- Conduct follow-up visits to support ongoing connection to care.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary outreach team.
- Utilize trauma-informed care and person-centered engagement strategies.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in harm reduction or related fields preferred.
- Experience working in harm reduction, peer recovery, street outreach, or a related field.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable under the organization’s policy, and have access to reliable transportation. Use of a personal vehicle may be required at times as part of job responsibilities.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
