The Detroit Quick Response Team (DQRT) is responsible for responding to all non-fatal overdoses by providing immediate outreach at the doors of individuals who have recently experienced an overdose. In addition to direct outreach, the team also responds to hospital referrals and conducts proactive community outreach efforts.
Individuals applying for this role should be comfortable engaging with people and families impacted by substance use disorder. Outreach activities will include engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness and entering homes as needed to connect individuals to harm reduction, recovery, and support services. This role focuses on accessing and providing recovery services, providing harm reduction services, education, and compassionate support to individuals with substance use disorders.
The Quick Response Team model is connecting individuals with substance use disorders to treatment and support services, ultimately reducing mortality. QRTs are typically made up of a small, multidisciplinary team (e.g., peer recovery coaches, harm reduction providers, social workers, nurses, behavioral health specialists, community health workers, EMTs/paramedics, and other clinical or non-clinical professionals).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach and engagement with individuals experiencing substance use disorders.
- Provide education on harm reduction strategies, including safer use practices and overdose prevention.
- Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone, drug testing strips, and hygiene items.

- Facilitate youth prevention programming including risk and protective factors, early warning signs of substance use, and healthy coping strategies and decision making
- Adapt and customize programming for K–12 schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations

Community Engagement and Regional Outreach (10%)

The Case Manager/Co-Responder is embedded within the Sterling Heights Police Department. This position is part of a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) / Co-Responder model designed to support officers during calls involving mental health crises, substance use, homelessness, and other complex community needs. The Case Manager responds alongside law enforcement to assess social and behavioral health concerns, determine appropriate next steps, and support diversion, referral, or higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
This role provides real-time assessment and intervention on scene, improving outcomes for individuals in crisis while enhancing officer safety and decision-making. This position strengthens the co-responder model by ensuring biopsychosocial determinations are made on scene, allowing officers to focus on public safety while individuals in crisis receive appropriate, timely care.
The position is employed by Face Addiction Now and is supervised by FAN’s Clinical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond with officers to calls involving mental health crises, substance use concerns, suicidal ideation, homelessness, or related behavioral health issues
- Conduct on-scene assessments, including evaluation of mental health symptoms, risk of harm to self or others, suicidal or homicidal ideation, and self-harming behaviors
- Provide officers with guidance and partnership during calls

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in the human services or related field with a proven track record of successfully working with diverse populations is highly preferred, will consider alternative, comparable experience to a degree.
- Minimum of three years' experience working with persons who suffer from substance use disorders (SUD) and mental illness; or one academic year of graduate practicum/internship experience working with person with SUD and mental illness
- 2+ years of project management experience.
- Minimum of one year experience with assessment and evaluation of adults and children experiencing behavioral health crisis, crisis intervention, and determining hospital eligibility is highly preferred.
