
Sue Dobrich retired as Cass County Probate Judge after twenty-six years of service. From 2014 until her retirement, she served as the first Chief Judge of Cass County Courts. In 2002, she launched Michigan’s first Family Court Treatment Court. An active figure in court leadership, she has been a member of the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals (MATCP) since 2006, where she served as an officer and president. She also previously led the Michigan Probate Judges Association and the Michigan Judicial Section of the State Bar. Additionally, she contributed to the Michigan Child Neglect and Abuse Task Force during the Engler and Granholm administrations. Judge Dobrich has frequently presented on treatment courts, child welfare cases, and domestic violence for MATCP, the Michigan Judicial Institute, and the National Association of Treatment Court Professionals (now known as All Rise).
A lifelong Cass County resident until her retirement, she made history as the county’s first female prosecutor. In that role, she concentrated on cases involving those at risk of harm or exploitation. She also practiced privately as a partner in the law firm of Westrate, Holmstrom, and Dobrich, specializing in family and municipal law.
Judge Dobrich has been recognized with several judicial honors, including the State Bar Champion of Justice Award. She currently serves on the boards of Legal Aid of Western Michigan and United Way of Southwest Michigan. Since retiring, she has worked as a consultant for the Michigan Supreme Court Administrative Office and project director for the Michigan Judicial Section.
