Director
Larry Johnson

A native of the Upper Peninsula born and raised in Iron Mountain, Larry is in his nineteenth year working for the Shiawassee County Health Department. He started as an assistant sanitarian during the summer of 2000 and was hired full-time as a sanitarian in the summer of 2001. Larry became Environmental Health Director in 2008 and Health Director in 2014.

Larry received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He is married to his wife Krista and has three children who attend Owosso Public Schools: 15-year-old twins Emma and Justin (who are high school freshmen) and 8-year-old Jason (who is in 3rd grade).

Most of Larry's time is spent chasing his kids around for their many sporting events and activities. He’s also a youth football coach in Owosso, and--when not busy with kid stuff--enjoys fishing, hunting, attending MSU football/basketball games, and Green Bay Packer football games. He enjoys spending a lot of his free time at his family cabin on the Yellow Dog River in the U.P. northwest of Marquette. Larry loves living and working in Shiawassee County.
