Lenawee FAN was formed in early 2023 by a group of individuals who saw a need for more connection, awareness, and support related to substance use in their community. Their goal was to create a local chapter that could help address gaps in existing services, share helpful information, and offer resources for individuals and families facing these challenges.
For many of the founding members, this work is deeply personal—they have lost loved ones or know someone whose life has been profoundly affected by substance use. Their hope is that Lenawee FAN will serve as a source of strength, understanding, and positive momentum for the entire region.
Our board and advisory board members represent a wide range of professional backgrounds—including medical and legal fields, education, emergency services, and social care. The group also includes individuals with personal experience related to substance use, along with family members who have supported loved ones through similar challenges. Many members of Lenawee FAN are professionally engaged in areas related to behavioral health and care coordination.
A key part of FAN’s mission is to raise awareness about the realities of substance use and its impact, using both data and lived experience. This includes sharing strategies that have shown promise in reducing risk and improving outcomes, as well as reflecting on approaches that have been less effective and why they may have fallen short. FAN aims to promote thoughtful alternatives to traditional systems that may unintentionally label or isolate those experiencing these challenges.
Through FAN, we’re able to implement approaches that focus on safety, engagement, and meaningful connection. Our goal is to offer individuals and families a place to turn when they’re looking for direction or resources. By working in partnership with others across the region, Lenawee FAN is committed to building practical solutions and providing steady, compassionate support to those navigating difficult circumstances.
