This initiative focuses on reducing hepatitis C transmission and improving health by providing testing, diagnosis confirmation, and treatment in community settings. Hepatitis C is a virus that attacks the liver, and many people don't know they have it because symptoms can take decades to appear. The good news: hepatitis C is now one of the most curable chronic infections in the world. FAN offers free testing and treatment with compassionate support every step of the way. This promotes early detection, rapid treatment engagement, continuity of care, reduced community transmission, and long-term connection to support services.

Is hepatitis C curable?
Yes! Modern treatment is highly effective and simple. Treatment usually lasts 8-12 weeks and involves oral pills with minimal side effects. Most people are cured after completing the course.
Do I need insurance to get treated?
No. All FAN services are FREE, and we help navigate insurance or connect you to resources if needed.
How is hepatitis C spread?
Hepatitis C is most commonly transmitted through sharing injection equipment, non-sterile tattoos or piercings, blood transfusions before 1992, and sharing personal items that may have blood on them, like toothbrushes or razors. Less common routes include mother-to-baby transmission and sexual contact with blood exposure.
Where will I get tested
Testing is flexible and private. You can be tested in a private room at our FAN office, at a mobile clinic near you, or we can even come to you. Our goal is to make testing convenient, confidential, and comfortable. Call us at 586-551-3097 to schedule an appointment.
What are the side effects of treatment?
Usually mild: headache, fatigue, or nausea. Most people tolerate treatment very well.
Can I keep working during treatment?
Yes! Most people continue their normal activities, including work and school.
Can I get hepatitis C again?
Yes, but treatment is still worth it. We provide education and resources to prevent reinfection.
